A Major Carpentry Assist With A High-End Remodel in Downtown Bozeman

PHASE I - The Shelving Modification to Accommodate a Curtain Pocket

This project was done from February through March of 2024 and consisted of  three small phases and an add-on series of floor repairs. I worked for the remodeling contractor performing the carpentry work and floor repairs and he performed the tile-setting and painting. The carpentry spanned the spectrum from creative and innovative to intense and grueling. This part was probably the best place to begin as it was the most difficult by far and would make the remainder of the phases seem somewhat easier in comparison. Either way, the end results were very good and I am happy with my performance on this project.

The photo carousels below will take the viewer through these phases with explanatory captions for each photo. Hover the cursor over the text to see the complete commentary.

PHASE II - The Unused Breakfast Bar Fill-In

The next phase was this fill-in under the breakfast bar and it had its problems. First and foremost was attaching the framing to the marble. This was accomplished with a special adhesive that would bond the lumber to the stone in a semi-permanent fashion but could still be removed at a later date to restore the bar to original condition without leaving a residue on the marble. This phase turned out quite well also as it almost looked original in itself when completed.

PHASE III - The Forced-Air Fireplace Gets Installed

This was a relatively straightforward install. Though it might not be apparent from the photos, because the tile installation order of operations for the tile-setting had not been completely decided at this point, the mantle and support framing was actually assembled as a rigid and removable unit in case it needed to removed. This is next-level carpentry.
